This was also a joint venture undertaken by SRISHTI (Madurai) and Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. The objective of this program was to study the effect of Yoga on the level of anxiety and depression among psychiatric patients. 20 patients from out - patient psychiatric care were trained individually with specific asana and pranayama. The training was suited to individual physical and mental needs and it was given for one year. KYM staff trained two social workers who were with SRISHTI. By the end of one-year period, post-training evaluation revealed moderate reduction in anxiety and depression as measured by objective tests. However, sustenance was not noticed. This could be because of lack of proper implementation and also lower level of motivation in the psychiatric group.
