Call for Abstracts | KYM International Conference on Prāṇa and Prāṇayāma

Note | If you are submitting an abstract, you are eligible to attend the paper presentation (on April 10th) and register at a discounted fee of Rs. 1500 for the conference (on 13th and 14th April).

The KYM invites abstracts for paper presentation as part of the International Conference on Prāṇa and Prāṇāyāma.

Authors of the selected abstracts will be given a chance to present their paper at the pre-conference event to be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the KYM premises. Paper presentations will be in person for the residents of Chennai and online for those residing outside Chennai. All presenting authors will be issued a Certificate of Participation by the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. The KYM may publish selected papers in the conference proceedings and/or other suitable platform(s).

Themes for Abstracts

Original abstracts based on recent research are invited from students, Yoga teachers, therapists and other professionals from all over the world on topics related to Prāṇa and Prāṇāyāma, such as:

  1. Prāṇa and Prāṇāyāma in Teaching and Practice 
  1. Traditional praxis and ritual application of Prāṇāyāma (e.g., in Pātañjala/Haṭha Yoga,Tantra/Āgama traditions).
  2. Contemporary/alternative conceptual and practical frameworks of breath-work (e.g., Aerobic exercise, Qi Gong) in comparison with Prāṇāyāma.
  3. Field reports from Prāṇāyāma teaching in campuses, adult education and outreach.
  1. Prāṇa and Prāṇāyāma in Medical Conditions and Therapeutic Interventions 
  1. Prāṇāyāma practice outcomes (including case studies) in specific clinical conditions (e.g., Yoga Therapy, Āyurveda, Adjuvant therapy, Rehabilitation interventions).
  2. Application of Prāṇāyāma as a public health intervention (preventive, for normal populations).
  3. Physiological/biochemical/neuro-psychological investigations of mechanisms of Prāṇāyāma outcomes.
  1. Prāṇa and Prāṇāyāma in Texts 
  1. Critical studies and comparative analyses of Prāṇāyāma in traditional texts (e.g., in Aṣṭāṅga Yoga, Haṭhayoga, Āgama traditions, Purāṇa-Itihāsa, previous unpublished/untranslated Yoga-related texts in Indian languages)
  2. Application of concepts/practices on Prāṇāyāma from textual sources in pedagogical/therapeutic design

Instructions for Authors

  1. The submitted abstracts must summarise research on the themes mentioned above, written in English, reflecting original thoughts and systematic research activities.
  2. The abstract should not have been previously published in any other forum/publication or under review.
  3. Submission to be done in a single MS Word document sent via email to yogaresearch@kym.org with “Pranayama Conference Abstract Submission” in the subject line.
  4. Title of the abstract should be under 200 characters.
  5. Author details should include Author name(s), institutional affiliations and designations, email and it should also indicate the presenting author.
  6. The abstract should be under 250 words, excluding references.
  7. Provide a list of keywords (3 to 5).
  8. Acknowledge assistance by Artificial-Intelligence-based tools if used.
  9. Due date for Abstract submission | 21st  March 2025
  10. Abstracts will be rated on academic rigour, originality and relevance to topic. Primary emphasis on Prāṇa/Prāṇāyāma is expected. It is strongly encouraged that recent work (i.e. from data gathered or investigations conducted after January 2023) is submitted.
  11. A limited number of abstracts will be selected for presentation. Authors of accepted abstracts will be allotted presentation slots only after submission of full papers.

Timeline

  1. Due date for abstract submission: March 25 2025
  2. Presenting authors will be notified of abstract acceptance on March 28 2025.
  3. Due date for submission of full papers by selected authors: April 07 2025
  4. Paper presentations (hybrid mode): April 10 2025

Payment For Abstract Submission

Registration and a payment of Rs. 700 per submission is mandatory for abstract submission.
