In studying the various facets of the Yoga-aṣṭāṅga, the relevance of Pratyāhāra as a vital bridge between the Bahiraṅga and Antaraṅga Sādhanā is often overlooked or understated.
However, while Abhyāsa is the mainstay of Yoga Sādhanā, it is Vairāgya that is the true test of the direction and outcomes of our practices. Pratyāhāra, underpins Vairāgya, enabling us to develop a committed interest with detached engagement in all our endeavours, even beyond Yoga Sādhanā.
The senses are often likened to horses, that need a careful hand on the bridle to steer them from a space of self-empowered discipline. A mind disciplined through the practices of Yoga therefore becomes paramount in self-regulation.
This practice integrated lecture series, explores the role played by the Jñānendriya-s and the Karmendriya-s, the role of the Triguṇa-s on the senses, the implications of repeated loops of sensory indulgence and the necessity for regulated self-discipline, through the lenses of the Upaniṣad-s, Bhagavadgītā, Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata, Yogasūtra and more.
This programme will be anchored by Ms. Nrithya Jagannathan, Director, KYM Institute of Yoga Studies.
Video recordings will be made available for a limited period to all registered participants, the schedule of which will be shared.
